Kindred Spirits - J Whit and and Poetry Slam
Kindred Spirits – J Whit and the Poetry Slam (Amazon Publishing Pros Dec. 2022) is inspired by the true story of a random connection between James Whitcomb Riley and Paul Laurence Dunbar more than 100 years ago. This historical fiction novel for grades 5-9 is the real story they don’t tell you. It’s my third independently published book. I’m looking for teachers, community members, and fellow writers to write reviews for Kindred Spirits and participate in a planned education program starting this fall. Email donna.griffin@

Programs to connect students to the world + people around them
In my virtual programs, K-12 students develop 21st Century skills in project-based programs that connect them to their communities and empower them to raise their voices for positive change.
These programs engage students through Media Literacy and Multimedia Storytelling.
Step by Step: how interactive programs work
- Choose a theme, like sports, current events, or environmental awareness.
- Work with Donna to create a program tailored for your group
- Enjoy the event(s) with your students! Students often get a book or other materials along with the program.
- Donna & students create media to document the event (such as a magazine or video)
